EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW
AGAIN!!!
Wondering what to do when the 17yr cicada's arrive?
First, check this link <Cicadas>
for good information about health issues and your puppy and the cicadas.
Second, for human consumption, it's been
said that you can sauté them in a little garlic and butter--- and if you
like that--- you can freeze them and have enough to last until they return in
17yrs~ what an idea!
Third, just think! The invasion of these
creatures will make everything
a new exposure!
For all puppies this is an opportunity to practice
keeping their heads up when on a walk, and no sniffing or scavenging. This will
be more of a challenge than wood chips since wood chips don't hop!
During routine exposures, you probably tell your pup "what a good pup!" or, if you pup is at all concerned, you remember to keep it light, touch the pup, and say things like "what a silly!"
If, in reaction to the mass of cicadas, you squeal and run, shake, and otherwise show concern, then the puppy will learn to worry about these creatures.
Remember- how you react teaches your pup. So, stay calm. Keep it light. Pull that cicada out of the puppy's mouth just as you would a sock, or wood chip. Brush the cicada off the puppy's back just as you would a leaf. This is a unique training opportunity!
