Time Off from Good Behavior!
Turkeys, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie and marshmallows- oh my!
Does your puppy like to help with clean up in the kitchen? These wonderful
creatures are happy to look in the refrigerator and cabinets, quickly clean up
food spills, or take care of those pesky leftovers! When cooking or
entertaining, either put your pup in the crate (this is a good time for them to
practice being quiet in the crate with activity around them) or maintain an
umbilical cord and use the time for training.
When family and friends come to visit, either put your pup in the crate or have
them sit next to you and greet the visitors properly (there are no days off for
proper greeting behavior) .
Your pup will still need walks, play time and body handling sessions.
Thanksgiving is a great time for food, friends, and days off. For puppies, it
can be a series of new exposures and/or a set of stressful disruptions. As with
all activities, keep them appropriate to your pup's age. Younger pups cannot be
expected to resist the hot chocolate mix on the floor for the entire afternoon.
Noise levels of excited visitors may be stressful, if so, move the pup and crate
to a quieter location.
