How many GEB puppies are born each year?
662 are live and available for placement

 

How many (what percent) are placed in homes to be raised?
420/662= 64% for our school and 80 to other organizations making a total of 76% placed with raisers

 

How many (what percent) of those being raised pass the IFT?
86% pass their tests and enter either the breeding or training program

 

How many (what percent) of those who pass IFT graduate?

49% of the dogs entering training graduate. Last year due to our kennel closing and loss of student rooms for training, 146 dogs graduated of which 138 were new graduates and 8 dogs were returned guides that were reissued to another graduate. 41 dogs were retained for breeding stock making the total used by GEB 187. Last year 284 dogs were accepted into training. 138/284= 49% of dogs passing IFT graduate. Of all dogs that were placed with raisers and reaching a final status last year, 34% graduate or are used as breeders. Normally this figure is around 43%. Of all dogs born live, 32% become breeders and guide dogs in our school or service or guide dogs in other schools.

 

How long is the adoption waiting list for puppies released at 7 weeks and at IFT  time?
There are 728 applicants for 7 week old puppies with active applications for the 205 puppies released each year. Last year there were 565 applicants. The price of a released puppy is $800 and released adult $2000. Normally, one of three applicants is patient enough to get their GEB pup and the wait time varies but is around 7 months for black males and about twice as long for yellow females

 

Applicants for adult dogs number 339 which is down from 600 last year. We have not been accepting new applications for the past two years. Approximately 127 adult dogs are adopted by the public per year. The wait time is now about 3 years and the applicants waiting generally do stay on the list.
